Do you hide who you really are behind a mask?
Do you pretend to be someone you are not?
Do you hide your true feelings?
Are you afraid to speak your truth?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, now is the time to change and
show the world who you really are and what you can achieve.
Did you know that repressing your true self can be detrimental to your health?
It’s absolutely true. Not only can it cause emotional and mental problems but
it can also cause a wide range of physical symptoms and issues.
For example, I had a client several years ago who was separated from his
wife but still sharing the marital home for financial reasons (never a good idea).
Every morning he woke up coughing up blood. This went on for weeks, slowly
getting worse until he finally plucked up the courage to tell her what he needed
to say. As soon as he had spoken his truth, he stopped coughing up blood.
I had a family member years ago who never spoke her truth because she was
brought up to ‘be nice’ and never upset anyone. It was so ingrained in her that
she was barely able to voice an opinion on anything. Not surprisingly, several
times a year, until she died, she would lose her voice completely for about a week.
No inflammation or infection was ever present, just the loss of voice.
Another example is someone who lives with bottled up resentment – eventually
this can cause arthritis or even cancer. I’ve seen this many times over the years
of consulting with people.
So why do we do this? Why do we feel we are unable to express ourselves freely
There are several reasons for this. Probably the most common is lack of self
worth. Most people believe they’re not good enough to show themselves as
they really are. They either have a ridiculously high opinion of everyone else or
a very low opinion of themselves, either way, they believe they don’t measure up
Many people also feel that if others saw them as they really are, they would be
horrified and repulsed. Sadly, many people find it impossible to see any good
in themselves at all, for a variety of reasons.
When self esteem is non-existent, the masks appear to cover up perceived
faults and inadequacies. There can be many masks, depending on different
situations. The mother mask, the daughter mask, the friend mask, the career
woman mask and a multitude of others.
Masks do not really serve us. They seem to be helpful but it’s only a facade.
Anything that enables repression of the true and amazing human being that
each and everyone of us truly is, does not serve us in any way.
Getting rid of the masks and manifesting your true inner self can be a long
and sometimes scary journey. Life Coaching and NLP will help you discover
the vibrant, warm and positive you that’s been hiding inside for years. It’s time
to set yourself free.
