It’s been written that most people go through life in a trance of disempowerment, blaming everyone and his dog for the problems and troubles in their lives. They blame the past, the government, the council, school, parents, bosses, ex wives and ex husbands – anyone and everyone is responsible.
Years ago, I knew a young man who was going about his daily life and as he was travelling to and from his job, going out with his friends and relaxing at home, he became aware that there was an unpleasant smell about the place. At first, he thought the people near him were at fault, then he realized everyone seemed to be smelly and that the smell seemed to be following him. He eventually thought that maybe the smell was coming from closer to home, maybe even himself? He set about sniffing all his belongings and lo and behold, he located the culprit – his favourite denim jacket, never off his back and badly in need of a wash.
Usually, as in the story, the problem is close to home. Regardless of the issue, if you’re really honest and look inwards instead of outwards, you will see that this is the case. And, the good bit about this (yes, there is a good bit), is when you change the inside, ie the mindset and the attitude, the world reflects back to you a very different picture.
The fact is, when you approach the world with anger and aggression, looking for misery and trouble, problems and worries, there they are, right on cue! When you decide to spin that around, approach the world with a positive attitude and happy outlook, the world will reflect that back to you too. Your life is actually a mirror of your thoughts and beliefs. When you thoughts and beliefs are negative and disempowering, your life will reflect that back to you.
And of course, your thoughts and beliefs are nothing at all to do with what has happened in your life – seriously. As the old saying goes, it’s not what happens in your life, it’s what you do with it that counts.
So take a look inside – what do you see?
